Mural of Australia – long text description

Mural of Australia is a large rectangular painting constructed from 2 separate canvases depicting 3 quintessential and contrasting images of the Australian landscape.

In the centre of the mural is a dot painting of Uluru. The reddish-ochre rock is outlined in white dots, while a white dot sun rises from behind. On either side of the sun, red and yellow dot tendrils poke out from behind Uluru, while 2 grey kangaroos outlined in white dots jump to the right in the foreground.

Across the top of the painting are 6 large handprints in the colours and design of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flag. The bottom of each hand is red, the palm is a solid yellow circle, and the fingers and thumb are black.

On the left side of the mural, a deep blue-hued wave with white foam crashes onto yellow sand against a lighter bluish sky with white accents. In front of the wave is a grey dolphin facing to the right, with white dotted accents on its back, tail and fins.

On the right side of the mural, colourful fireworks of green, blue, red and yellow explode over a distinctive outline of Sydney Harbour, complete with the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Centre Point Tower. A black night sky filled with small white stars fills the background.
