NSW Public Schools State Drama Festival
The continuation of the 2021 drama programs will be contingent on advice provided by the NSW Department of Education in consultation with NSW Health.
Activities for all programs currently have to adhere to current DoE COVID-19 restrictions.
The State Drama Festival celebrates classroom drama achievements of students in Years K to 12. This event is a two day celebration of drama works showcasing strong drama outcomes in classrooms from across the state. Over 800 students participate in a range of dramatic styles.
How to be involved
We are using a new portal to receive school applications for State Drama Festival, accessed directly below or via The Arts Unit Community tile in Staff portal so you can edit your forms and communicate with TAU.

The auditions are held throughout the state as part of Area Drama Festivals.
A selection of items from these festivals are chosen to perform.
Performance dates and times
Thursday 21 and Friday 22 October 2021
• Matinee performances
(designed especially for school groups, must be accompanied by a teacher)
Primary Matinee, Thursday 21 October at 11:00 am
Secondary Matinee, Friday 22 October at 11:00 am
• Evening performances
Thursday 21 October at 7:30 pm
Friday 22 October at 7:30 pm
Venue: Seymour Centre, Everest Theatre - Chippendale

Teachers acceptance information
Successfully nominated schools invited to perform at 2021 State Drama Festival will need to download the following information that will become available in Term 3:
• Technical rehearsal schedule for schools rehearsal dates and times
• Running order to know when your school will be performing
• Everest Theatre, Seymour Centre stage dimensions
School participation fee
A participation fee of $100 per school will be direct debited from participating schools after the State Drama Festival.
Rural and remote subsidy
In 2019 as part of The Arts Unit's ongoing support of the Department of Education's
Rural and Remote blueprint for action, we were excited to be able to offer
a State Drama Festival Participation Subsidy. We offered grants to to
rural and remote schools (follow the link and download complete list, column AH shows rural and remote status)
In 2019 this subsidy was used to support schools in bringing an audience to the State Drama Festival performances and was used towards tickets, NIDA Festival workshops and associated travel and accommodation costs.
