Festival of Instrumental Music

The commencement of the 2021 Festival of Instrumental Music will be contingent on advice provided by the NSW Department of Education in consultation with NSW Health.


The Festival of Instrumental Music presents concerts of diverse and challenging repertoire, as well as some specially commissioned works by Australian composers, at prestigious Sydney venues.

In 2020, three concerts will be presented at the Sydney Town Hall.

Jacaranda Concert: Wednesday 1 July 2020, 7pm CANCELLED

Waratah Concert: Monday 24 August 2020, 7pm CANCELLED

Applications have now closed for 2020.

Instrumental and Vocal Individual Item applications have been suspended until further notice.

All primary and secondary schools are encouraged to submit outstanding music groups or soloists for inclusion in Music Festivals. The item(s) may be vocal or instrumental, small or large - e.g. a soloist, string quartet, concert band, percussion ensemble or vocal group.
