The commencement of the 2021 festivals will be contingent on advice provided by the NSW Department of Education in consultation with NSW Health.
Public School students from across NSW combine to celebrate musical excellence in a series of concerts that feature soloists and ensembles in a variety of musical styles. They have the opportunity to work with professional conductors and perform music specifically chosen and commissioned for them. Opportunities exist for outstanding instrumental and vocal items to perform at some of these festivals.
Festival of Instrumental Music
The Festival of Instrumental Music features a Combined Recorder Ensemble and Combined String Ensemble. In 2020 the ensembles will perform at the Sydney Town Hall, together with outstanding instrumental and vocal items from public schools across NSW.
Festival of Choral Music
The Festival of Choral Music features a Combined Primary Choir of 450 voices from Years 3 to 6. In 2020 the choir will perform at the Sydney Town Hall, together with outstanding instrumental and vocal items from public schools across NSW.
Primary Proms
The Primary Proms features a Combined Primary Choir of 450 voices from Years 3 and 4. In 2020 they will perform with outstanding instrumental and vocal items from public schools across NSW in four concerts at the Sydney Town Hall.

In Concert - Secondary Choral Festival
The In Concert - Secondary Choral Festival sees the Combined Secondary Schools Choir annually joining forces with The Arts Unit's premier Instrumental Music Ensembles to present two performances at the Sydney Town Hall. This concert will provide secondary students with the opportunity to sing in a massed choir with more than 500 other students and perform a range of significant choral works.
The Idea of North - Secondary Schools Vocal Festival
In The Idea of North - Secondary Schools Vocal Festival The Arts Unit collaborates with The Idea of North to promote choral singing in NSW Public Secondary Schools. The festival takes place October and each day of the festival ends with a concert open to the public.
