Applications for State Wind Ensembles will open in early 2019.
The State Wind Bands provide an opportunity for talented students in NSW Public Schools to perform in a state ensemble under the direction of professional conductors.State Bands perform repertoire chosen to challenge and extend students' musical skills. 60 students from across New South Wales will be selected for each ensemble.
Two symphonic wind bands will be formed:
- Senior State Wind Band for Years 8 – 12 students.
Students should be a minimum of AMEB Grade 6 or equivalent.
- Junior State Wind Band for Years 5 – 8 students.
Students should be a minimum of AMEB Grade 4 or equilavent.
Successful applicants will commit to: 2 rehearsal days in Sydney, plus 2 rehearsals and performances at the Sydney Opera House as part of the Department of Education Festival of Instrumental Music.
Once an applicant is accepted, participation in all sessions is mandatory and no variation to this schedule is possible. Please be sure that your child is able to commit to the full program before applying.
Cost for 2019:
- Metropolitan Students - $110
- Non Metropolitan Students - $82.50
- Rural & Remote Students - $42.50 (includes subsidy)
As part of The Arts Unit's support of the Department of Education and Communities' Rural and Remote Education blueprint for action, we are excited to be able to offer a Participation Subsidy of $40 to students from rural and remote schools to attend the State Band.
Please note: If interest exceeds available funds, allocation of the Participation Subsidy will be prioritised based on remoteness. Subsidies will be confirmed with acceptance notification.
Accommodation (for non-metropolitan students)
Billeting can be organised for Non-Metropolitan students if required. Metropolitan students who are able to host a country student will receive a financial subsidy.
Students will organise their own travel to and from rehearsals and performances.
Students will be supervised by DoE teachers during rehearsals and performances.
