2020 State Drama Ensembles

The 2020 NSW Public Schools State Drama Ensemble provides students from Years 9-11 with the opportunity to develop a work for performance at the State Drama Festival in October. Places in this Ensemble are open to talented students who are currently attending a NSW public school.


There will be 2 intensive compulsory devising workshops held at The Arts Unit in Lewisham to develop new work that will be performed at the 2020 State Drama Festival (22 & 23 October):-
No 1: Term 3 School Holidays | Monday 28 September to Friday 2 October 2020 (inclusive); 10am-4pm
No 2: Term 4 Wednesday 21 to Thursday 22 October 2020 (inclusive)

Performance Opportunities:
Students will perform at the State Drama Festival held at the Seymour Centre, Chippendale:-
• Thursday 22 October - 7.30pm
• Friday 23 October - 11am & 7.30pm

The ensemble fees cover the hire of regular tutors and industry professionals for intensive workshopping, a Drama Ensemble t-shirt, and the sourcing and supply of costumes for the State Drama Festival. Students will need to cover the cost of their own travel and/or accommodation if needed. All prices include GST:-
Metropolitan/Non Metro  $375
Rural & Remote               $280

Applications will open on Monday 15 June 2020
Applications will close on Thursday 6 August 2020. The Selection Panel will meet to view all Audition Films on Monday 10 August 2020, nominations will be notified via email after this date.

Student Requirements:
• Priority will be given to students from rural and remote schools.
• Students in metropolitan schools who do not currently attend a Weekly Drama Ensemble will also be able to audition.

Rural and Remote Subsidy:
As part of The Arts Unit's support of the Department of Education Rural and Remote Education blueprint for action, we are excited to be able to offer a discounted rate of 75% of the full price (as above) to students from rural and remote schools to attend the State Drama Ensemble. Please note: If interest exceeds available funds, allocation of the Participation Subsidy will be prioritised based on remoteness. Successful subsidies will be confirmed with acceptance notification.
