What's Happening at The Arts Unit?

A message from the Director:
A hive of activity

We are fast approaching the end of the year with some of our most fabulous events to come, including our biggest Schools Spectacular ever!

I recently attended the Sydney Opera House for the Festival of Choral Music to hear our terrific primary school students sing. I look forward to the Secondary Schools Vocal Festival; seeing 50 of our chosen Operation Art pieces tour around the state, our Multicultural Playwright workshops and Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking competitions; hearing some great arguments at the Premier's Debating challenges; and finding out who will be the winners of our Premier's Spelling Bee. Thank you to all the teachers involved in these programs.
Rosemary Davis - Director Arts, Sports & Initiatives.

Congratulations to all our Festival of Choral Music students

Over 5,000 students enjoyed performing at the Sydney Opera House this week. It was a huge success as you can see from one of our principal's word of thanks "from a country school's perspective, this opportunity is unparalleled. Singing on mass, being part of a concert that involves an orchestra and viewing stage performances all provides a rich tapestry for our children to broaden their musical appreciation."

The Arts Unit is proud to offer such wonderful experiences for students.

Congratulations to all our state dancers and state drama students who have had extremely successful festivals recently.

It’s always wonderful when we can single out one person from our vast team of dedicated teachers and highlight how their special skills enrich students’ lives.

Thanks to our NSW Public Schools State Dance Festival major sponsor Teachers Mutual Bank, one such teacher – Jo-Anne Thorn – enjoyed a well-deserved moment in the spotlight.

Jo-Anne received the Teachers Mutual Bank Award for Outstanding Services to Dance Education at Friday’s final performance in the 2016 Dance Festival.

Jo-Anne says her love of dance began when she was a student at Fort Street High School, and continued at her first teaching assignment (Dulwich Hill Public School), and then Sylvania Public School.

Since 1993, Jo-Anne has taught students from K-12 at Hunter School of the Performing Arts, mentoring almost 200 dancers through their HSC Dance course, and has had ensembles performing at the State Dance Festival every year since 1988!

A round of applause, please, for this inspirational teacher … and one of thanks to Teachers Mutual Bank.
