To accompany the 2019 State Drama Festival, The Arts Unit will run specialist 
drama workshops led by professional tutors from our Festival partners,
The National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA).
 

PLAYBUILDING AND PHYSICAL THEATRE

Create your own stories through physical theatre skills and playbuilding techniques.  Learn how to develop characterisation skills and collaborate together to make original performances in a workshop context.

IMAGINATIVE WORLDS: STORYTELLING

Enter the imaginary worlds portrayed in Book Week Shortlisted Books.  Create quirky characters, wild environments and transform objects to assist in conveying meaning to an audience.  Go on a journey as you create scenes with your ensemble of storytellers using your voice and body.

THE HERO'S JOURNEY: SCREEN ACTING

Explore NIDA Acting Techniques and develop your confidence on screen.  Create your own character based on your favourite screen heroes and devise original scenes with your fellow actors.
 

PHYSICAL THEATRE

Work with an industry professional to explore devising tools and techniques focusing on the genre of physical theatre.  Learn how to develop original performances through techniques such as The Viewpoints, improvisation and image based excercises in a collaborative ensemble.

Explore style and learn the fundamentals of creating character for Musical Theatre.  Gain skills in singing as an ensemble and learn how to create exciting narratives through movement and dynamic choreography.

Discover and experience the essentials of acting for screen.  Apply screen skills to scripted scene work and develop confidence in your own screen performance.  Deepen your craft and uncover the truth in your performance through working with your fellow actors.

THE ACTOR'S CRAFT

Work with an industry professional to explore acting tools and techniques informed by the Stansislavski System of Acting.  Work with text and gain skills in text analysis, characterisation and improvisation.
