What's Happening at The Arts Unit?

A message from the Director
Welcome back!

Welcome back to all our students, parents, caregivers and teachers. We are looking forward to some wonderful performances, exhibitions, festivals and events this year.

I recently attended the Art Gallery of New South Wales to help officially open the ARTEXPRESS exhibition. Once again I am amazed by the talent of our students and thank the teachers for sharing their expert knowledge and for guiding their students through the creative process. I look forward to seeing other exemplary HSC works and performances as part of Encore.

This term, there are many professional learning opportunities for teachers, with workshops in music, drama and visual arts. The Arts Unit has been working with industry experts to develop new resources to bring teachers the best of the arts in education.

Thank you to our arts partner Bangarra. This term, 11 workshops are scheduled for our Secondary Aboriginal students. I encourage all schools to access our website to find out more about this initiative.

The Premier's Reading Challenge opened 6 March 2017. Last year, over 277,000 students across NSW completed the challenge with a record breaking 7,492,209 books read by students.

I hope you are having a great first term and I look forward to meeting you at some of our exciting events and performances.

On Wednesday 5 April at 11.30 am, students from The Arts Unit’s music ensembles and public speaking program will support the 2017 RSL & Schools Remember ANZAC Commemoration Service at Hyde Park. The service is always a stirring occasion and we are proud to be a part of this significant reflection of Australia’s history. With pieces like Always Remember, Abide With Me, The Recessional and the National Anthem, the music component is a fitting tribute to the ANZAC spirit. With our student host and student bugler from NSW public schools also leading proceedings, it will be an honourable occasion and a quality program. The general public is welcome to attend.

This year the Premier's Reading Challenge celebrates it's 15th anniversary. The Challenge opened on 6 March. Please check the PRC website for more details.
